I don't know of another Pakistani performer in Hindi film. I'd like to emulate Zeba's example. I'm dumbfounded about supposed Pakistani performing artists in Hindi movies," says Humaima.

No better shooting locale than Kashmir: Kabir Khan

Gulmarg: There is no outdoor location in the world more beautiful and enchanting than Kashmir and nothing can beat the magic of Gulmarg in winter, director Kabir Khan said Friday.

Kabir Khan is currently directing Sajid Nadiadwala`s thriller ‘Phantom’, based on the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai and their fallout.

The film has Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles.

In an exclusive chat, Kabir Khan said that for many years Bollywood could not come to Kashmir because of the situation, but now every filmmaker is trying to make up for the lost time.

"There is no outdoor location as beautiful and enchanting as Kashmir and there is nothing that can beat the magic of Gulmarg during the winters," he said.

"We have been shooting here for the last few days and we intend to complete soon."

"`Phantom` should hit the theatres before the end of this year. I am sure it would be received very well," Khan said.

The film has also been shot in Beirut in Lebanon.

Khan has previously directed blockbusters like ‘Kabul Express’, ‘New York’ and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’.

Khan started his career with documentaries like ‘The Forgotten Army’ in 1999, a documentary on the Indian National Army of Subhash Chandra Bose.

He later made ‘Taliban years and beyond’ and ‘The Titanic sinks in Kabul’.

He said he has always liked working in Kashmir and it was something spiritually refreshing and rejuvenating.

"Yes, Kashmir has a spiritual value addition for anyone who comes to do creative work here. There is no doubt about this and one has to come and work here to notice this," Khan said.

With the improvement in the law and order situation, more Bollywood directors are coming here to shoot their films.

In 2013, ‘Haider’, an adaptation of William Shakespeare`s ‘Hamlet’ directed by Vishal Bhardwaj was shot here for over two months.

Mumbai: From being an adult film actress to creating waves in Bollywood, Sunny Leone has come a long way in the past few years. The Indo-Canadian talent credits her husband Daniel Weber for her success.

The duo got married in 2011.

"I would have been nothing if Daniel wasn`t by my side," Sunny said during the shooting of ‘Breakfast to Dinner’.

She said that at first, “I wanted him to reject me, so I went late for my first date with Daniel."

But destiny had other plans for them.

Sunny said that she owes her husband, who is also her manager, as he stood beside her through thick and thin.

A known name in the world of pornography, Sunny made inroads into Indian entertainment when she participated in reality show ‘Bigg Boss 5’. Her appearance on the show set the ball rolling for her as far as getting work in Bollywood was concerned.

Sunny, whose real name is Karen Malhotra, got her first break with 2012 film ‘Jism 2’. Following that, she was seen in a special song in ‘Shootout at Wadala’ and then a full-fledged role in ‘Jackpot’.

She is looking forward to the release of ‘Ragini MMS 2’ later this year and hopes that the Indian film fraternity and the audience accept her in different roles and take her seriously as a performer.

Salman Khan and his Jai Ho co-star Daisy Shah recently visited the sets of the popular reality show Dance India Dance. At the show, the macho hunk showed his emotional side when he fought back tears after Manan and Sumedh’s performance.
“You guys have gone way beyond just entertaining us,” said Salman, “You’ve made us remember all those people who’ve helped us reach where we are in life today. You’ve got us all emotional today.”
“I had never thought I’d be here one day as a judge, with him on the set as a celebrity judge. I am obliged to be sitting here in front of him and judging talent and, in fact, also presenting a few acts,” added the show’s judge Mudassar.
Meanwhile, the actor who visited Gujarat on Uttarayan to promote his film, said he loves Gujarat. The 47 year old said “I have always wanted to be a part of this festival and feel the spirit which is unique to Gujarat. Besides, Gujarat has a special place for me personally as well as professionally. I have always got a good response from the audience in Gujarat and I wanted to make sure that I am there to meet my fans at the right time. What has Irrfan Khan got to do with John Abraham’s date issues?

If Irrfan Khan wants to blame one person in the industry because of whom he is no longer voluntarily unemployed, it has to Johan Abraham.
John was supposed to start shooting for Nishikan Kamat’s directorial venture Rocky Handsome this month. However, the dates for Kamat’s film clashed with Anees Bazmee’s Welcome Back.
The movie is said to be inspired by Arvind Kejriwal’s aam aadmi movement. Says director Nishikant Kamat, “When John was unable to shoot with me, I was at a loose end. Suddenly everything fell into place. I had this script for two years that I wanted to make with Irrfan in the lead. And look at the coincidence! Irrfan had his dates diary empty. He was on the look-out for a film that would interest him. I guess this project was destined to happen.”
The yet-to-be-titled Irrfan Khan starrer would be completed by March. Nishkant starts Rocky Handome with John Abraham from March 15. Says the director, “The Irrfan film is very much in the realistic space that I attempted in Dombivali Fast and Mumbai Meri Jaan. It’s real gritty and song-less, quite a culture shock for me after completing the Marathi film Lai Bhaari which is in the Rowdy Rathore space and has six songs.”
2014 will see three releases from Nishikant Kamat. “It just happened. The Irrfan starrer I am doing was never intended to start now. Then there is Rocky Handsome with John. My Marathi film Laal Bhaari with Riteish Deshmukh is also releasing this year. So I’ll have three films this year. I may disappear for three years after that.“

Is Sujoy Ghosh remaking a Satyajit Ray film with Vidya Balan?

There were reports that Sujoy Ghosh, the National Award winning film-maker who earlier wrote, produced and directed Vidya Balan’s hit thriller Kahaani; was planning on remaking Satyajit Ray’s film Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest). When asked about it, he says the film’s ideology suits the 1970′s more than the present times and that is the reason he dropped the project.
Sujoy told a leading daily, “It wouldn’t make sense to make a period drama since we already have Ray’s classics.”
There were rumors that his next film with Vidya was based on Durga Shakti Nagpal, the civil servant who reacted against corruption, and was subsequently suspended and later reinstated by the UP government. Ghosh rubbished this and said “Utterly, absolutely rubbish, it’s a brand new script. It is a thriller that stars Irrfan Khan and Vidya Balan.”
When asked if it is a sequel to Kahaani, “No it isn’t; this is another story. Nevertheless, a sequel to Kahaani would be an exciting proposition but Kahaani 2, Kahaani 3, Kahaani 4, how long can I go on without getting bored out of my head?” was his reply…

“The scorching temperature in Oman and the sandstorms affected my skin and I ended up with rashes,” said Piggy Chops. But she didn’t stop the shoot. “As they say, the show must go on and I decided to complete the shooting before seeking medication,” she added.
Last year, while shooting for the Mary Kom biopic in Manali, a bug bit her and she developed a rash. She got really paranoid about the bugs and called off the Manali shoot; which was eventually shot at a studio in Mumbai. Looks like she’s learnt to be a bit more professional.
It was probably a relief to the makers of Gunday when she told them she would finish the shoot.

'Suchitra Sen said no to Satyajit Ray'

Suchitra Sen allegedly did not accept the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 2005 because it required her to make a public appearance. Sen, 82, who had been ailing for a while, passed away yesterday in Kolkata.

The Bengali actress, who has also featured in several Hindi films, stopped stepping out in public since the late ’70s, and went on to the life of a recluse. Barring her family -- that includes daughter Moon Moon and granddaughters Raima and Riya -- only West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee got to meet the Mahanayika -- as the CM described her -- when she was in hospital.
Says veteran Bengali filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta, “We lost her the day she decided to be a recluse. She remained a mystery and the only memory we have of her is through her films. She had refused Satyajit Ray; she never worked with leading Bengali filmmakers like Ritwik Ghatak and Mrinal Sen. I could never make a film with her -- she would just not fit in. She belonged to the old school of acting.”
Late auteur Satyajit Ray’s son Sandip Ray reminisces, “My father wanted to make the film Chaudhurani with her in the 1960s. She did not do the project and ultimately, the film was never made. I have seen her, but have not interacted with her. My memories of her are of the several Bengali films she did with Uttam Kumar.”
Sen made her Hindi film debut in 1955 as Paro in Bimal Roy’s Devdas, in which she starred with Dilip Kumar. The thespian reminisces, “I have a distinct memory of Suchitra as a demure lady and an actress who sprang to life the minute the camera was focused on her. She had a an inborn sense of timing and pace that made her responses in the more intense scenes of Devdas absolutely apt and remarkable.
We were on the same wavelength while doing our emotional scenes and like me, she, too, did her mental preparation seriously and diligently. She was rather quiet by nature but there were times when she surprised us with her sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh.
