Is Sujoy Ghosh remaking a Satyajit Ray film with Vidya Balan?

There were reports that Sujoy Ghosh, the National Award winning film-maker who earlier wrote, produced and directed Vidya Balan’s hit thriller Kahaani; was planning on remaking Satyajit Ray’s film Aranyer Din Ratri (Days and Nights in the Forest). When asked about it, he says the film’s ideology suits the 1970′s more than the present times and that is the reason he dropped the project.
Sujoy told a leading daily, “It wouldn’t make sense to make a period drama since we already have Ray’s classics.”
There were rumors that his next film with Vidya was based on Durga Shakti Nagpal, the civil servant who reacted against corruption, and was subsequently suspended and later reinstated by the UP government. Ghosh rubbished this and said “Utterly, absolutely rubbish, it’s a brand new script. It is a thriller that stars Irrfan Khan and Vidya Balan.”
When asked if it is a sequel to Kahaani, “No it isn’t; this is another story. Nevertheless, a sequel to Kahaani would be an exciting proposition but Kahaani 2, Kahaani 3, Kahaani 4, how long can I go on without getting bored out of my head?” was his reply…

For his next film centred around the life of an actress-turned-politician, Madhur Bhandarkar is looking at casting a leading name from the industry. In fact, he has not one but three heroines on his wish-list for this film titled Madamji.
With the film’s script in its final stage, the director is planning to approach Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Vidya Balan to play the lead role in his film.
A source says, “Madhur will be meeting all three of them and depending on how the talks go, the film’s lead will be finalised.” The director of Fashion and Heroine clearly hasn’t had enough of women-centric films.
The source adds that this film traces the story of a small-time actress who turns to politics under the guidance of her mentor, and that the film’s lead character will be in her late 30s or early 40s.
“Like all his other films, this one will be a hard-hitting film with a dash of humour. The film takes its inspiration a real-life person who is currently a politician in Uttar Pradesh,’’ says the source. Interestingly, Madhur has earlier worked on a movie with politics as its premise.
His film Satta, starring Raveena Tandon, revolved around a woman who hates politics but joins it eventually. however, remained unavailable for comment.
