Parineeti: It's very easy to slot me

Parineeti Chopra doesn't feel that she is being typecast as the out-of-the-box bindaas rabble-rouser and contends instead that she has portrayed different characters in her films.

She said: "To say that I am only playing bindaas characters is I think a very limited way of looking at the characters I've played. I mean, just because my character in 'Ladies Vs Ricky Behl', 'Ishaqzaade', 'Shuddh Desi Romance', and 'Hasee Toh Phasee' were unconventional, does it mean they are all the same?"

"Of course, no matter who the actor is, his or her personality is bound to seep into the character. But to me my characters in 'Ishaaqzaade', 'Shuddh Desi Romance' and 'Hasee Toh Phasee' are entirely different. No similarity at all.

"In the first, I was shooting guns all over the place. In the second, I was a small-town girl smoking, drinking and living in with her boyfriend. And now in 'Hasee Toh Phasee', I am almost a child in a grownup girl's body. It's very easy and simplistic to slot me," she added.

Her new release "Hasee Toh Phasee" has not exactly set the box-office on fire. But Parineeti's performance has been unanimously hailed as a tour de force.

And she is over the moon with the praise.
"I was playing a borderline whacked-out character. When people had seen the promos, they thought I was doing one more vibrant bindaas character. But this one is completely different," she said.

Parineeti is excited about working with director Habib Faisal a second time in "Daawat-e-Ishq".

"Habib will always be special. He gave me 'Ishaqzaade'. When I did 'Ishaqzaade' with Habib sir, I was new and raw. This time while doing Daawat-e-Ishq with him I understand his craft much better. I think I am much better able to understand what he wants from me as an actor. I don't have to struggle to understand him. So the work atmosphere is far smoother and we get the scenes done far quicker."

Parineeti enjoyed working with Aditya Roy Kapoor and Anupam Kher in "Daawat-e-Ishq".

"We've become really close. Anupam Sir is like Aditya's and my age. We quickly finish our shots and rush to his van. I am already depressed because the shooting is nearly over. I want to do more films with Anupam sir," she said.

Parineeti: Basking In The Praise

Her new release Hasee Toh Phasee(HTP) has not exactly set the boxoffice on fire. But Parineeti Chopra's performance has been unanimously hailed as a tour de force.

And she is over-the-moon with the encomium.

Says the excited actress, `I was playing a borderline wacked-out character. When people had seen the promos they thought I was doing one more vibrant bindaas character. But this one is completely different.`

When told she was getting typecast as the out-of-the-box bindaas rabble-rouser Parineeti jumps to her career's defence saying, `To say that I am only playing bindaas characters is I think a very limited way of looking at the characters I've played. I mean, just because my character in Ladies Versis Ricky Behl, Ishaqzaade, Shuddh Desi Romance, and Hasee Toh Phasee were unconventional does it mean they are all the same?`

Parineeti wonders how people define the difference in two roles. `Are people to say I am different in two films when I wear a ghagra choli in one and a bikini in the other? That's like saying Mr Amitabh Bachchan and Mr Shah Rukh Khan play the same character each time when in fact they are different characters with different shades in every film.Of course no matter who the actor his or her personality is bound to seep into the character. But to me my characters in Ishaaqzaade, Shudh Desi Romance and Hasee Toh Phasee are entirely different. No similarity at all. In the first I was shooting guns all over the place. In the second I was a small-town girl smoking drinking and living-in with her boyfriend. And now in Hasee Toh Phasee I am almost a child in a growup girl's body. It's very easy simplistic to slot me .`
Parineeti is very excited about working with director Habib Faisal a second time. `Habib will always be special. He gave me Ishaqzaade. When I did Ishaqzaade with Habib Sir I was new and raw. This time while doing Daawat-e-Ishq with him I understand his craft much better. I think I am much better able to understand what he wants from me as an actor.I don't have to struggle to understand him. So the work atmosphere is far smoother and we get the scenes done far quicker.`

Parineeeti enjoys working with Aditya Roy Kapoor and Anupam Kher in Daawat-e-Ishq. `We've become really close.Anupam Sir is like Aditya's and my age. We quickly finish our shots and rush to his van.I am already depressed because the shooting is nearly over . I want to do more films with Anupam Sir.`

Having worked with Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Siddharth Malhotra and Aditya Roy Kapoor Parineeti says she 's close to all of them. `But there is a special bonding with Arjun. We spent three months shooting together in Lucknow. Now I've spent a lot of time shooting with Aditya in Hyderabad. So these two are my favourites.`

With 7 film to her credit Parineeti says she is far more alert and anxious. `Initially I had nothing to lose. But with every passing film there are more expectations to live up to, your own and others. There is a check-list of directors and actors you want to work with. The dreams expand and so do the anxieties.I want to be known for being versatile. So I'll search now for roles that take me to another level.`

The spirited scene stealer says she doesn't see any of her contemporaries as rivals. `I don't really feel anyone is a threat . There is enough room for everybody. That's how I feel right now. Maybe two years down the line I'll start peering anxiously over my shoulder. But at the moment I'm happy to be just doing the work that I am.`
Parineeti has no regrets about opting out of Shoojit Sircar's next film Piku where she was to play the Big B's daughter. `The dates clashed with another film. I was so looking forward to it because it gave me a chance to work with two of the finest actors we have Bachchan Saab and Irrfan Khan. Maybe it was too early for me to work with these stalwarts.I'd have probably forgotten my lines and just stared at them.`

As for losing out on the chance of doing a father-daughter film with the Big B Parineeti says, `I have a very strong father-daughter bonding with Anupam Kher Sir in Daawat-e-Ishq. As for Bachchan Saab, I'm sure I'll have other opportunities to work with him.` Says Parineeti, `Audiences saw a new me in Hasee Toh Phasee. Now they'll see me in an entirely new avatar in Shaad Ali's Kill Dill.. I've lots on my plate. Till the release of Hasee Toh Phasee I was shooting two films, dubbing and promoting. There was no time for myself. And I can't complain. Good scripts are coming my way.Obviously I can't say yes to every film and endorsement that comes my way.`

About losing out on the popular awards this year the pragmatic Parineeti says, `Deepika Padukone deserved them. It would have been odd if me or anyone else got them. But I was nominated. And I was very happy.`

Parineeti says she's entering her best phase so far. `This is my fourth year in the industry. And I'm doing the work that I am really enjoying.`

'Drama queen' a positive word for me: Parineeti

Actress Parineeti Chopra is seen grooving to the beats of "Drama queen" in her new movie "Hasee Toh Phasee" and she says that she takes the word very positively.

"The word 'drama queen' is very positive for me, because I am like that. I am very outspoken, I talk loudly, I am always happy and smiling...I do a lot of dramas and I don't think it's a bad thing," Parineeti told reporters during a promotional conference of the film here.

The 25-year-old says coming to the sets of the movie, which also features Sidharth Malhotra, was not new to her because she has always done medium budget films.

"For me, to play the character was a challenge, but coming to the sets of 'Hasee Toh Phasee' was not new because I have always done medium budget films. You know, I have always done movies with restricted budget, so shooting was fine with me but the character came to me as a challenge," she said.

Parineeti, who made her Bollywood debut with "Ladies vs Ricky Bahl", says she had a lot of personal pressure while shooting for the movie.
"I wanted to do something different and I got this movie. The role is not like 'Ishaqzaade' or 'Shuddh Desi Romance' because in those two I played very Indian characters. This was completely different, I am off (mentally) in the movie and because of that I really had to do a lot of work" she said.

"I used to try and make the dialogues easy by continuously repeating it so that it's there on my tongue and I get very depressed if I feel that I have not given my best in a shot, so that way I had a lot of personal pressure," Parineeti added.

"Hasee Toh Phasee", directed by Vinil Mathew, releases Friday.

Parineeti: Mind it! I am not over weight any more

Actress Parineeti Chopra says she may have weighed a few extra pounds in her debut movie but she has become thinner with her rigorous work-out regime.

"When I had entered the industry I was big and used to fit into that size category. Now, I feel I am not, as I have lost much more weight and look better. I don't want to be in that weight category... I am working very hard to become thin. I feel I am skinny now," Parineeti told PTI here today.

Not everyone in Bollywood is ready to confirm when it comes to looking thin. Actresses like Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi and Vidya Balan are comfortable in the way they look. Parineeti, however, says she always felt uncomfortable with her extra pounds.

"Those actresses are comfortable in what they look like. I used to feel uncomfortable. I am in a visual medium and should be able to compete with every good-looking actress." "The body type affects what I wear and I can't get best dresses for myself.

I can't wear sleeveless, because I would look fat in it. I want to lose even more weight and look better in real life. On screen if I have to wear shorts or bikini for a scene I should have the body for that," she said.

"I am 25-year-old and there is no reason for me to look fat. I want to look great. I am taking care of myself and I am losing even more weight because I want to look better," she said. However, that does not mean she is looking to get to size zero.

"I think size zero is extreme. Even if I starve and stop eating I don't think I would ever reach size zero in life," she adds. Though there are reports that Parineeti is going to wear a bikini for her upcoming film 'Kill Dill', the actress rubbishes them saying, "I don't have a bikini appearance at all.
That is just a rumour. That film does not require a bikini scene at all. The film is based in Delhi and in Delhi I can't imagine wearing bikini on roads." But if she ever has to wear a bikini on screen she isn't against it, provided she gets in better shape. "I don't think I have the body for it yet.

One day when I have (body) I will wear a bikini. I just want to wear better clothes. Six months ago I couldn't wear sleeveless, as I was fat.

I wanted to get rid of that," she said. Parineeti is all charged up for her next release 'Hasee Toh Phasee' opposite Siddharth Malhotra. The romantic- comedy produced by Karan Johar and Anurag Kashyap is set to release on February 7.
